I am so pleased to announce that I will be artist-in-residence at the Art Loft , Rockland,Maine for the month of August. My residency will begin with a gallery show entitled ‘If Only in a Dream’ on August 3, 2018 from 5-8.
The show comes at a perfect time, just as I am completing my year long ‘passion project.’ As you might remember, the project began with phase one, simply titled ‘Emotion.’ It was a way of processing intense emotional trauma, a work-through if you will. Working on phase one absolutely impressed upon me this fact – that using creativity to process emotion is extremely valuable and productive. A later photoshoot gave me a way to express the emotion I feel of living with chronic pain. Again, a very effective way of understanding my own deep feelings that are often pushed aside.
After phase one I was fully ready to move on to phase two – ‘Flight.’ The name flight was chosen for the feeling it evokes in me, of freedom, weightlessness, joy. The project was a way to find that joy again in life, to let go of sadness. The imagery I created allowed me to view myself in this light. At the end of phase two, it was easy to move on and expand the idea of finding joy. The photo shoot at the Camden Opera House gave us all a chance to do some playacting and imaginative storytelling … which led into a full-blown fairytale series with that express theme.
The show will encompass all phases of the project. The first four will be represented by a video slide presentation and the final fairytale series will be shown in part as framed prints. Gift blocks, as I call them, will be available as well. These are 8×8 images on 1 1/2 inch wide wood art blocks. They can be hung or placed on a table and are pictured below. They make perfect gifts.
This is the first time I have ever completed such an expansive project and one with such a meaningful purpose. I have to say … I highly recommend it. It has allowed me to grow artistically and given me a wealth of knowledge from a practical standpoint. It has increased my emotional intelligence and given me a way to express, analyze, and process deep emotion. And lastly, but certainly not least, allowed me to understand that I am fully capable of much.
And that indeed, we all are capable of much, we only need to make room for it.
Prints of from the Fairytale series can be purchased here.
