Emotionally speaking I’ve been on a wild ride as of late. I am stuck behind the wheel of a rickety old car, the steering is off and the road is steep and winding. Any minute now I might careen off the edge of the cliff out of control.
Well, it’s not that bad! But sometimes it feels like it!!
I try to view my emotional up and downs like the lyrics of a Jem song – It’s just a ride.
“It’s just a ride, it’s just a ride, no need to run, no need to hide… it may feel so real inside but don’t forget it’s just a ride.”
I used to indulge in various types of foods, hoping they would ease that queasy feeling you get when things get out of control, like when that old car can’t handle the hairpin turns. Chocolate, bread, ice cream – the usual companions.
Now I take my camera along for the ride.
The act of placing beautiful objects, pleasing colors and flowers directly in my line of sight has an immediate positive impact. Manipulating the objects for a more artistic effect is empowering.
Much more effective than chocolate. A lot more fun.
A little smile starts forming on my face.
