Making peace with March

is it here?
not yet
will it come?

not soon enough

it is restless
it is calm
it is dirt
it is clean
it is wind
it is still

it is a wild thing!
and so am i

March and I have forever had this struggle, a disconnect. No  longer winter and not yet spring, this period in the year brings on an intense restlessness in me. I so desperately long to break out of the confines of walls, weighty, dark clothing, and stale air. These things no longer feel protective but restrictive. Each morning I wake with an anxious feeling, a desire to break out and run wild through the fields!

But the time is not yet….

“…it never is time for the waiting to be over, until it’s time.” ~ Sarah Ban Breathnach

It is time, however, for me to make peace with March. Tap into it’s rhythms and take advantage of it’s power. In anticipation of intense growth, the earth experiences a struggle similar to birth pains. Days of warm soft breezes and still calm between periods of wild wind and downpour and bitter cold, contract and push forward until finally, spring breaks forth in all it’s sweet glory. Taking this cue from nature I decide to get busy… and also relax. I made a to do list with a variety of tasks, some busy work, some that can be done with a hot cup of tea and a cozy blanket.  Each day I choose from the list the appropriate task according to the mood of the environment. It’s an exercise in adaptability, flexibility, and patience. But it’s also a release and a connect.

March is a wild thing!    …and so am I!

I’ve been feeling very similarly, especially this year! The sun is out and it looks like spring, but it’s freezing outside. It’s like spring dangling in front of me but I can’t grab it. I like your list idea. I love the imagery in your writing
